News archive 2004:

Sept 11-12th 2004
It was another great showing for the Houston Engine and Balancing team at the Angleton Dragway TPSA September 11th event. Number one qualifier, David Hubbard, claimed another win further increasing his current lead in TPSA points. David posted elapsed times of 5.00 with speeds in excess of 140 miles per hour for 660ft. All of the four entered HE&B teammates advanced past first round only to pair up against each other in the second. Les Costales had a tough race against David and Jonathan Johnson and Ronnie Loomis had a dual that was decided by one ten thousandths of a second. Ronnie took the scenic route against Jonathan as he tried to keep his racecar in his lane which evened up the race to the hair rising finish margin win. The many Quick Time videos listed below and photos in our photo gallery paint a bigger picture of the excitement surrounding this type of heads up racing.

Ronnie Loomis joined the fun this weekend when he pealed off his Super Gas sticker and replaced it with a Texas Pro Stock number. After only a few practice runs, Loomis advanced to the semi-final round to pair up with fellow Grocery Boy David Hubbard. Staying competitive throughout the day, Ronnie cut the only perfect light during eliminations with a time of 5.17 against David Hubbard’s winning .408 with an ET of 5.13. David later earned a runner-up finish giving the round away to the dreaded red light. Houston Engine and Balancing “Grocery Boyz” David Hubbard and Les Costales qualified number one and two with elapsed times of 5.08 and 5.10 respectively for this TPSA event. David continues to hold the number one spot in TPSA points!

Team Houston Engine and Balancing / “The Grocery Boyz” made their presence felt this weekend at the TPSA Temple Academy Dragway event. Les Costales qualified number 1 and posted one of the quicker elapsed times during eliminations. His second round loss with a 1/8 mile time of 5.08 secured him a tie for the number three spot in TPSA points. Once again, David Hubbard made the quickest elimination pass at a 5.07 for the event and claimed a respectful runner-up finish with his HEB sponsored corvette. David currently holds the number 1 spot in TPSA points. If you have not had the opportunity to see an all motor TPSA heads-up event, visit their website and check the schedule for the next race.

It was a record breaking weekend for the Texas Pro Stock Association when David Hubbard posted a 4.99 1/8th mile elapsed time with his Houston Engine and Balancing powered Pontiac Firebird, making him the first TPSA member this year to do so. David advanced through eliminations posting a 5.00 for first round, a 5.00 for second round, a 4.99 for third round, and won the race with a 5.00. The fastest TPSA elimination passes at this event were made by both David Hubbard and our very own Les Costales, posting a 5.05 as his quickest elapsed time.

It was a giant success for Houston Engine and Balancing Service and our customers at the O’Reilly Spring Nationals held at Houston Raceway Park. Round 4 of eliminations for Super Gas had 50% of the field running a Houston Engine motor. That percentage climbed to a 60% level for round #5. Houston Engine quickly dominated the Super Gas field in the Semi-Final Round #6 with a 100% car count running Houston Engine motors. We would like to thank all of our customers who participated in this NHRA national event. It is because of you we had such a great showing in the sportsman category. Photos of the event can be viewed from our photo gallery section of this web site.
